There are several alternative arthritis treatments. Acupuncture and acupressure are some of the ancient Chinese pain relief treatments that are starting to gain popularity around the world. Acupuncture points to treat this disease are located all over the body. During this treatment, tiny needles are placed along the legs, arms and the shoulders. You may feel a slight moment of discomfort as the needles penetrate the skin but once they are in place, you will feel relaxed and you may even fall asleep during the duration of treatment.

The length, number and frequency of this treatment vary but normally it lasts from five to 30 minutes. You can go for this treatment once or twice a week. It can help to relieve some symptoms during the first visit but if your case is chronic, you may require multiple treatments. In acupressure, dingers are used instead of needles. Studies have shown that acupuncture and acupressure release endorphins and may also have anti-inflammatory properties.

Herbs and supplements are the other alternative arthritis treatments. One example is the willow bark which was the original herbal aspirin. Willow bark tea has pain relieving and anti-inflammatory affects similar to those of aspirin.

Ginger and rosemary tea can also help to fight this disease. If you have osteoarthritis, three to seven grams of ginger a day can help to relieve pain and reduce swelling. Rosemary leaves contain four anti-inflammatory substances that can help relieve some of the symptoms associated with this disease. Epsom salt has both anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties and therefore can also help to relief pain in the joints.
